Overview

In Interno, a report is a PDF made from one of your dashboards. The Reports page lists your dashboards; you pick one, preview its widgets, and download an Interno Executive Report with one widget per page.

Because a report is a snapshot of a dashboard, you decide what goes in it by deciding what goes on the dashboard. To build a dashboard for reporting, see How to Build Custom Widgets and Dashboards and How to Manage Dashboards (Templates, Filters, Export/Import).

Prerequisites

• At least one integration connected with data collected. Until Interno holds data, Reports sends you to Admin → Integrations.
• report:view to open the Reports page. Without it the page shows an unauthorised screen.
• At least one dashboard you can see: a public dashboard, or a private dashboard you created.

Generating a Report

Navigation: Sidebar → Reports

1. Click Reports in the sidebar. The page lists your dashboards as cards under the heading Dashboards, each with its name and description. Twelve are shown per page.
2. To find a dashboard, type its name in the search box, or use the page numbers under the cards.
3. On the dashboard's card, click Executive.
4. The Preview window opens with the dashboard's name in its title and the question Are you sure you want to download this document? Underneath, each widget that will be in the report is drawn with its current data.
5. Wait for the widgets to finish loading, then scroll through them to check the content.
6. Click Download. The button is greyed out while the report is being put together.

Your browser downloads a PDF named after the dashboard, and the window closes. Click Close instead of Download to leave without generating anything.

What the Report Contains

What is left out, and why:

• Table widgets are not included. Only chart, card and standard widgets are put in the report. A dashboard made only of tables produces a report with a cover page and nothing else.
• Dashboard filters are not applied. The report runs each widget's saved query as it is. Values you set under Global Filters on the dashboard, and filters set on a single widget, do not carry into the report.
• Reports are not stored. The PDF is created in your browser and downloaded straight away. The Reports page does not keep a history of reports; generate it again whenever you need a fresh copy.
• Reports are not scheduled or emailed. To have query results emailed on a schedule, use an alert. See How to Set Up Alerts and Evidence Queries.

Getting a Report That Reads Well

• Build a dedicated dashboard for the audience, with only the widgets they need.
• Use chart and card widgets for anything that must be in the PDF. Replace a table with a chart of the same data, or with a card showing the headline number.
• Give every widget a clear title. The title is printed with the widget.
• If the report must cover a narrower scope, put the condition in the widget's own query rather than relying on a dashboard filter.
• Check the preview before you download. The PDF shows the widgets exactly as the preview draws them.

Troubleshooting

Reports sends me to Integrations → Interno has no collected data yet. Connect an integration under Admin → Integrations and let a scan finish.

The Reports page shows an unauthorised screen → You do not hold report:view. Ask your administrator.

"No Reports Available" with "There are currently no data available." → You have no dashboards to report on, or your search matches none. Clear the search box, or create a dashboard first.

A dashboard I expected is not listed → The page lists public dashboards and your own private ones. A colleague's private dashboard is not visible to you. Ask them to make it public.

The PDF has only a cover page → Every widget on the dashboard is a table. Add chart or card widgets to the dashboard.

A widget is missing from the PDF → Table widgets are left out. Any other widget that is missing had not finished loading in the preview; open the preview again, wait for every widget to draw, then click Download.

The figures differ from what I see on the dashboard → The dashboard has filters applied and the report does not use them. Clear the filters on the dashboard to compare like with like, or put the condition in the widget's query.

A widget in the report shows no data → Its query returned nothing. Open the widget from the Query Library and check the query, and check that the integration feeding it has completed a scan.

Download stays greyed out → The dashboard is still loading, or the report is being put together. Wait for it to finish.

I cannot find a report I generated earlier → Reports are not kept in Interno. Look in your browser's downloads folder, or generate the report again.
